Our Responsible Jewellery Approach

Crafted with Care

Every Meerayah piece begins with considered choices: the silver we work with, the natural gemstones we select and the craftsmanship that brings them together. Our responsible jewellery approach extends beyond the finished design to how a piece is worn, cared for and treasured over time. Here, we explain our approach to materials, making, packaging and aftercare, alongside the information we are still working to understand. We believe progress should be shared through clear facts and practical improvements, without making promises we cannot support.

The principle

Specific facts, not broad promises.

Jewellery has an impact. Our responsibility is to understand it, reduce what we reasonably can and explain our choices honestly.

  1. State what we knowClear information about materials and natural characteristics.
  2. Do not guessNo recycled, certified or origin claim without suitable evidence.
  3. Help pieces lastCare, warranty and assessment before unnecessary replacement.
01

Our responsible jewellery approach

Jewellery begins with materials from the earth and is brought to life through the knowledge and skill of people.

At Meerayah, responsibility means understanding those materials, making considered choices, creating jewellery intended to be worn for years and communicating honestly about what we can—and cannot yet—verify.

We do not claim to have every answer. We are building our approach carefully and will update this page when meaningful evidence or practices change.

For Meerayah, this means:

  • Being clear about the materials used in our jewellery.
  • Appreciating natural variation rather than demanding artificial uniformity.
  • Avoiding environmental claims that we cannot support.
  • Creating considered jewellery rather than following short-lived trends.
  • Helping customers care for what they already own.
  • Improving the information we hold about our suppliers and materials.
02

Our 925 sterling silver

Meerayah jewellery is crafted in 925 sterling silver. The number 925 means the metal contains at least 92.5% pure silver, combined with other metals to provide the strength needed for jewellery.

Our silver is left unplated. We do not use rhodium plating to disguise the natural appearance of the metal.

The natural character of silver

Sterling silver may gradually oxidise when exposed to air, moisture, cosmetics or certain chemicals. This can create a darker tone or surface tarnish.

Oxidation is a normal characteristic of genuine sterling silver. It is not, by itself, an indication that the jewellery is defective.

With appropriate storage and care, its appearance can usually be refreshed.

What we will not overstate

We will only describe silver as recycled, certified or responsibly sourced when we hold appropriate evidence from the relevant supplier. As our supplier information develops, this page will be updated with any verified details.

03

Our gemstones

The gemstones are shaped by geological processes over long periods of time. As a result, no two stones will be completely identical.

Colour and toneNatural shades may vary from one gemstone to another.
Internal characterFine inclusions and natural features may be visible.
TransparencyClarity and light transmission naturally differ.
Pattern and structureSubtle differences help make every stone individual.

Gemstone information

Where reliable information is available, we aim to communicate whether the gemstone is natural, any treatment or enhancement known to us, relevant care requirements, dimensions or characteristics, and source or origin where it can be stated responsibly.

Where information has not been confirmed, we will not guess or imply a level of certainty that we do not have.

Selected for character

We do not believe every gemstone should look artificially flawless. Our stones are selected for a considered balance of colour, appearance, character, suitability and value. Natural inclusions or tonal variations may be visible and should not automatically be treated as faults.

04

Made with intention

A bespoke Meerayah piece begins after its design, gemstone, metal and personal requirements have been agreed.

This allows each commission to be created for a particular customer instead of being produced without a known purpose. Before work begins, customers are given the opportunity to review their selected design and requirements.

Our design philosophy

We focus on jewellery with lasting personal relevance rather than pieces created simply to follow a temporary trend.

  • Birthstones and meaningful gemstones.
  • Personal milestones and individual stories.
  • Bespoke design choices.
  • Pieces intended to be given, worn and kept for years.
Not every Meerayah product is made to order. Where a piece is bespoke or created following an order, this will be explained clearly.
05

Made to be worn

The usefulness of jewellery should not end after a single occasion or season. Our care guidance is designed to help customers understand how to store, clean and wear sterling silver and a gemstone jewellery appropriately.

Our 12-month manufacturing warranty

Meerayah jewellery is supported by a 12-month limited manufacturing warranty. The warranty covers eligible manufacturing faults. It does not cover normal wear, accidental damage, loss, misuse, unauthorised alteration or damage caused by inappropriate care.

Repairs and assessments

Some jewellery may be suitable for repair, adjustment or professional assessment depending on the original design, condition, gemstone and setting, availability of compatible materials, and the type of work required.

Customers should contact Meerayah before arranging or attempting a repair. Where an assessment is available, any applicable work, timescale and cost will be explained before proceeding.

06

Thoughtful packaging

Jewellery packaging has two important purposes: protecting the piece during delivery and providing a suitable place to store it afterwards.

Meerayah packaging is selected with these practical purposes in mind. We encourage customers to retain and reuse their jewellery box or pouch for storage, travel or gifting wherever suitable.

Clear claims, not assumptions

Packaging is made from several components, which may include the jewellery box, interior inserts, pouches, printed cards, tissue or protective wrapping, postal packaging, labels and adhesives.

We will only describe a packaging component as recyclable, plastic-free, certified or made from recycled material when its exact specification has been confirmed.

As this information is collected, we intend to provide clearer reuse and disposal guidance for each component.

07

The people and skills behind each piece

Jewellery involves many specialist skills. Depending on the piece, these may include gemstone selection, cutting and polishing, silver casting or forming, stone setting, hand finishing, polishing and quality inspection.

We value the knowledge and craftsmanship involved at each stage.

We are continuing to improve the information we hold about our workshops, suppliers and material sources. Statements about working practices, certifications or responsible sourcing will only be published when supported by suitable documentation or evidence.

08

Our progress

Responsibility is an ongoing process rather than a finished destination.

Frequently asked questions

Is all Meerayah jewellery sustainable?

We do not describe jewellery—or Meerayah as a whole—with a broad, unqualified sustainability claim. Jewellery uses materials, energy, packaging and transport. Our approach is to understand these impacts, reduce what we reasonably can and communicate specific facts rather than relying on general environmental language.

Is Meerayah silver recycled?

We will only describe our silver as recycled when the recycled content has been confirmed through suitable supplier documentation. Until that information has been verified, we describe the material accurately as 925 sterling silver.

Why is Meerayah silver unplated?

Meerayah uses unplated 925 sterling silver. This preserves the natural character of the silver and avoids adding a rhodium-plated surface. Because the metal is unplated, natural oxidation may become visible over time. Appropriate care can help maintain or refresh its appearance.

Are Meerayah gemstones natural?

Meerayah’s gemstone-led jewellery is designed around gemstones unless a product description expressly states otherwise. Natural gemstones may display inclusions, colour variations and other individual characteristics.

Are all gemstones untreated?

Not necessarily. Many gemstones available within the jewellery industry may receive accepted treatments to improve colour, clarity, stability or appearance. Where reliable treatment information is available to us, we aim to communicate it. We will not describe a gemstone as untreated unless that information can be supported.

Can I ask where a gemstone came from?

Yes. Where we hold reliable provenance or origin information, we will share it. Where the source cannot be confirmed with sufficient confidence, we will explain that clearly rather than speculate.

Can Meerayah jewellery be repaired?

This depends on the design, damage, gemstone, setting and work required. Please contact us with photographs and your order details so that the piece can be reviewed. An assessment does not guarantee that a repair will be possible.

How should I dispose of Meerayah packaging?

We recommend reusing the jewellery box or pouch for storage wherever practical. Material and disposal instructions will be added as the specifications of individual packaging components are confirmed. Customers should also follow their local authority’s recycling guidance.

How often will this page be updated?

We intend to update this page when a material claim has been verified, a process has meaningfully changed or a stated improvement has been completed. We will avoid making indefinite promises without reporting progress.
